Acne
Acne is a very common skin condition that affects adults and teenagers. Although it can very in severity, acne can be painful, distressing, and embarrassing. More severe acne can also cause permanent scarring.
Acne can have many causes, but the hormonal changes of the teenage years and later in adulthood are often involved. Many patients have tried over-the-counter regimens but do not find that they are enough to control the acne. At EDP we have many means of treating acne including oral and topical medications, chemical peels, and extractions. We aim to target treatments to each particular patient’s needs and concerns. We do participate in the iPledge program, allowing us to prescribe Accutane for very severe acne or when other treatments have not been successful.
Although many people think of acne as a condition of teenagers, it is quite common in adults and can be very frustrating. About 1 in 5 adult women experience acne, some for many years. Stress, chemical or occupational exposures, cosmetics, and hormonal changes can all play a role in adult acne. Since skin changes with time and age, treatments that work for younger acne sufferers may not work or be too harsh for adult patients. At EDP we strive to help adults with acne find treatments that will control this challenging condition.
